Yes! Helping Professionals Also Need Tools for Wellness

We know it’s our calling, but the stressors involved in caring for others around the clock can leave us susceptible to wellness hazards. Are you meeting enough of your own needs?

Who qualifies as a “helping professional”?

A helping professional is anyone who provides support and assistance to individuals who are experiencing difficulties or challenges in their lives

This can include those who assist people in addressing emotional, psychological, and/or physical issues, such as:

  • Mental health professionals
  • Addiction specialists
  • Therapists
  • Counselors
  • Social workers
  • Medical providers
  • Support staff
  • And many others!

We go by many names and occupy roles in multiple fields.

What risks do helping professionals face in their personal lives?

One commonality among helping professionals is the risk of burnout and compassion fatigue. It’s important to recognize the dangers of these all-too-common issues and to take steps to assess your own self-care needs.
